Project summary

Edit project overview to modify the project summary.

Work on the Pow Beck will revolve around mitigation of diffuse agricultural pollution, more specifically nutrient and sediment loss from the farming system. The first phase of the project will be based around engaging the farming community on the Pow Beck and providing a range of workshops that inform them about diffuse pollution and the work that can be done to address it through the project.

The project will then seek to address issues through a number of methods working in conjunction with the farm business. The work involved includes improving farm infrastructure or installing riverbank fencing and planting trees. The project is also changing the working practices of businesses in the area by using GPS equipment to improve the accuracy of fertiliser spreading and offering machinery to help reduce the amount of soil compaction. The project therefore aims to take a whole farm approach to diffuse pollution reduction.

Monitoring surveys and results

Edit project overview to modify the Monitoring survey and results.

The Eden Demonstration Test Catchment (EdenDTC) project will carry out monitoring of stream water quality and biology. This includes monitoring nitrogen, phosphorus, sediment and water volume. Additionally before and after photographs will be taken of project sites and electrofishing surveys take place within the catchment.
