The River pant in this location has undergone a high degree of physical modification and has limited or no connectivity with the floodplain on either bank. As such the project proposes to reconnect the surrounding meadows, creating a secondary channel and some wet grassland.

To do this it is proposed that a 300mm pipe is installed approximately at a height that will allow regular inundation, especially during high rainfall events and will facilitate the creation of the back channel.

The back channel will then be further enhanced by limited excavation and pool creation to form bays and hold water during periods of drought. In the main river we plan to install some woody debris. This is an area that suffers repeatedly from drying out in the summer months causing issues with the fish populations and a reduction of in stream diversity.

By installing the woody debris we hope to create some riverbed diversity which will create pools and hold water for longer in the summer months, the flow deflectors will also hold water back in the catchment and alleviate conditions for fish. The faster moving water will also oxygenate the water and provide better conditons for fish fry and spawning fish.
