Project summary

Edit project overview to modify the project summary.

The River Kennet was the subject of many overviews by the Environment Agency and Natural England. These overviews revealed that the Kennet was in an unfavourable condition. Problems included barriers to fish migration and poor water quality. The ojectives to combat these issues were:

- To achieve favourable condition for the whole length of the Kennet within the estate
- To achieve favourable condition for the Kennet and Lambourn and SINC meadows within the estate

The project appears to have been a success with many of the objectives been achieved.

Monitoring surveys and results

Edit project overview to modify the Monitoring survey and results.

- To achieve favourable condition for the whole length of the River Kennet SSSI within the estate

- To achieve favourable condition for the Kennet and Lambourn SSSI/SAC and SINC water meadows within the estate
- To increase hydrological connectivity between river and floodplain
- To remove obstructions to fish movement within the estates holding, thus linking up previously spatially isolated sections of habitat
- To improve wild trout numbers in the river and hence reduce reliance on fish stocking
- To improve the overall quality of the river fishery
