Project summary

Edit project overview to modify the project summary.

Renaturation of former riverbeds was carried out at specific sections of the Goriški Brežiček and Tresenec streams. Both brooks were rerouted to their former meanders in the length of more than 500 m each.

Monitoring surveys and results

Edit project overview to modify the Monitoring survey and results.

Floristic inventory and monitoring of the plant species composition of the habitat types in the areas of restored riverbeds as a tool in assessing the changes caused by rerouting the Goriški Brežiček and Tresenec streams. The action will be carried out by the park staff and funded by Notranjska regional Park.

Floristic inventory and monitoring of the plant species composition of the habitat

types in the areas of restored riverbeds of Goriški Brežiček and Tresenec streams in order to notice possible establishing of invasive plant species, for example Himalayan Balsam (Impatiens glandulifera), Canada (Solidago canadensis) and Giant Goldenrod (Solidago gigantea), Cutleaf Coneflower (Rudbeckia laciniata), Topinambur (Helianthus tuberosus) and allochthonous species of the genus knotweed (Fallopia). Establishing is possible because construction machinery used for restoration is known to be disperser of these species and because of the suitable habitat. These plants will be manually removed, should they show up. The action will be carried out by the park staff and funded by Notranjska regional Park.

Suitable management of banks to ensure habitat diversity and accessibility; water weed management to prevent the clogging of the watercourse; dredging of the riverbeds as a rejuvenating process; bank protection to prevent erosion where needed in the areas of restored riverbeds of Goriški Brežiček and Tresenec streams will be implemented. The action will be carried out by the park staff with the external assistance where needed and funded by Notranjska regional Park
