Help:Case study import
Case studies can be created by importing them into the wiki from an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet must be based on the standard RESTORE case studies template. It can be in either .xls or .xlsx format. You can download the template here:
You must be logged in to the wiki as a registered user to perform an import.
The import process
Convert the spreadsheet to XML
Before it can be imported, the spreadsheet must be converted to an XML format that is understood by the wiki.
A web based tool is available to perform this conversion here:
https://restorerivers.eu/ImportCaseStudy/Default.aspx
To use the tool:
- Click the Browse button
- Select the Excel file you want to convert
- Click the Convert file button
- Look for a message saying the file was processed successfully
- Use the Click here to download the XML file link to download the resulting XML file to your computer
After a successful conversion, the tool will display a list of the case studies that it found in your spreadsheet. You can use this list to double-check that the tool has processed all the case studies successfully.
Warning messages may be displayed next to some case studies. These will indicate if, for example, a required data item is missing. You can correct the data in your spreadsheet and re-process it; or you can proceed to upload the XML to the wiki anyway, and correct the problems afterwards on the wiki.
Upload the XML
Once you've downloaded your XML file from the conversion tool, you can upload it to the wiki using the following page:
It is recommended you select the Skip option for pages that already exist. If you select Overwrite existing content then case studies from the imported file will overwrite any existing case studies on the wiki with the same names. Do not select Append to existing content - this will result in invalid case study pages being created.
If you uploaded several case studies, it may take some time before they are all visible on the wiki.
