For our coastal waters wave processes are the dominant controlling process for shore morphology. Within estuaries wave exposure is also important. Sediment distribution which is influenced by waves and are probably the dominant control of biota that use the shore and intertidal zone. Consequently, it is important to have an understanding of the wave exposure.
